Biographical notes:

The Kitchel family is descended from Robert Kitchell (1604-1672) and Margaret Sheaffe (d.1682). The Kitchells, along with their son Samuel, left England in 1639 with the Rev. Henry Whitfield and a group of Puritans refugees. The group first anchored near, what is now, New Haven, Connecticut and later settled as a group in Guilford, Connecticut. In 1766 Robert and Samuel moved their families to New Jersey, where they helped settle Newark.

From the description of Kitchel family papers, 1690-1877, 1775-1825. (New Jersey Historical Society Library). WorldCat record id: 53284323
