Rev. Van Raalte and his family and 53 others sailed in Sept. 1846 from Rotterdam to N.Y. They settled in Holland (Mich.), which they bought in 1847, and recorded and platted by 1848. The Clarke Historical Library has a book of Van Raalte's letters to his wife.
