Biographical notes:

William C. Cromwell was born in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from Emory University, he worked as a police officer in Atlanta before enlisting in the Air Force. He earned his master's degree (1965) and doctorate (1968) both in international relations from American University. He began teaching while in graduate school and worked at AU until he retired in 1999. Cromwell held a number of administrative positions at the School of International Service including assistant to the dean, assistant dean, associate dean and, in 1978-79, acting dean. He also had several visiting appointments at the College of Europe in Brussels during the 1980s and was director of AU's Brussels Semester program. Cromwell wrote three books, "Political Problems of Atlantic Partnership: National Perspectives" (1969), "Eurogroup and NATO" (1974) and "The United States and the European Pillar: The Strained Alliance" (1992).
