Maureen Daly (1921-) was born in County Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland and grew up in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin. She attended Rosary College and began her writing career as a teenage reporter for the Chicago tribune. She married writer William P. McGivern in 1946. Daly became an author of fiction, but continued to write nonfiction for newspapers and magazines and also compiled and edited collections of short stories by other authors. Her young adult novel, Seventeenth summer, published in 1942, was an immediate success and launched her career as a writer.
