Biographical notes:

Enlisted into Massachusetts National Guard 1913, discharged in 1917 to accept commission into Officers' Reserve Corps, Engineers Division. Served as an enlisted man in the National Guard and as an officer during World War I and World War II in Europe, with the 3rd Division, the 6th Engineers, American Expeditionary Forces. Served with the 4th Engineers, instructor of Engineer Reserve Officers, II Corps Area; Corps of Engineers, V Army Corps and organized Corps Tank Destroyer Force. Married Helen Besler, who served in Europe during 1918-1919 as an entertainer sponsored by the American Expeditionary Forces and the National War Work Council of the Young Men's Christian Association.
