University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Library. Gifts and Exchanges Section.
Biographical notes:
The Gifts and Exchanges Section of the Library's Acquisitions Dept. receives and routes materials acquired by gift or by exchange with other libraries and agencies. Until the late 1950s, the Acquisitions Dept. was known as the Order Dept. During the 1920s and 1930s exchanges seem to have been a function of the Periodical, Exchange and Binding Dept. When gifts and exchanges became a formally organized unit of the department is difficult to determine.
