Prior to June 1969 the governing body of the University of Utah was known as the Board of Regents. The State administration of Higher Education was the State Board of Higher Education. In July of 1969 each state instituion of higher education formed an Institutional council as the governing body, at which time the name "Board of Regents" was discontinued at the University of Utah. January 24, 1974 the State body changed its name to the Utah State Board of Regents.
