Biographical notes:
David L. Hostetler (DLH) is a wood carver, bronze sculptor and a professor emeritus of Ohio University. His works appear in more than 25 museums and galleries. DLH received his art degree from Indiana University in 1948 and a Master's of Fine Arts from Ohio University in 1949. His career includes guest teaching and lecturing throughout the United States and Mexico. He retired as a full professor of sculpture from Ohio University in 1985. Yousuf Karsh (YK) is an Armenian-born internationally known portrait photographer. His most famous photograph is a 1941 portrait of Winston Churchhill that became the cover of Life magazine. YK immigrated to Canada in the 1920s, and was a resident of Ottawa and New York during the time period of this collection. In 1967, YK was asked to photograph DLH with his elm-wood women sculptures on DLH's farm in Athens, Ohio.
