Known authority on Barnstable genealogy, Gustavus Adolphus Hinckley worked as a machinist and manager of mining operations before returning to his birthplace, Barnstable, Mass. in 1872. From 1874 to 1883, he was treasurer of the Barnstable Savings Bank before retiring. He transcribed town vital records and cemetery inscriptions for Barnstable and fully indexed his work.
