Richard V. Petta served the Order Sons of Italy in America as Supreme Trustee (1981-1985), Virginia Grand Venerable (1973-1977), First Assistant Grand Venerable (1971-1973), Grand Orator (1969-1971).
The Richard V. Petta Order Sons of Italy in America Collection (1969-1987) consists of Supreme Lodge Convention minutes and officer and committee reports (1969-1983), Officer Directories (1975-1983), financial reports (1973-1983), and records of the National Foundation (1959-1984). Reports of the National Membership Committee are also included as are extensive documents of committees to revise National by-laws and ritual (1976-1987). Virginia Grand Lodge records include correspondence and reports (1973-1983), grand convention records (1973-1987), membership statistics (1983-1986), OSIA wall calendars (1983-1985). There is also information pertaining to local lodges including a large volume of minutes and correspondence from George Washington Lodge No. 2038, Vienna, Virginia (1979-1987).
