Biographical notes:

Samuel McKee was born near Lexington, Virginia, in 1774. After formal schooling and studying law in his native state, McKee began practicing law in Somerset, Kentucky. He served as surveyor of Pulaski County, then moved to Lancaster in Garrard County where he also practiced law. From 1802 to 1808 he served in the Kentucky House of Representatives. McKee was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1809 to 1817. During his Congressional service, McKee saw military service as well on the staff of General William Henry Harrison in the War of 1812. His final federal service was membership on a commission to clear obstructions from the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. McKee died while on location to perform these duties in Hickman County, Kentucky in 1826.
