Russian language teacher. Born Nina Maximov, St Petersburg. Arrived in Australia, 1925. Taught history and languages in Brisbane schools before moving to Melbourne with husband Clem Christesen. Founding Head, Russian Department, University of Melbourne, 1946-1976.
