John C. Floyd was born on July 3, 1927 in Olla, Louisiana. He received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Louisiana State University in 1949. He also received his M.D. from the same university in 1954. In 1958, John C. Floyd came to the University of Michigan Medical School as an instructor in internal medicine. From 1959 until 1960, he was instructor of internal medicine at Louisiana State University School of Medicine. In 1960 Floyd returned to the University of Michigan as assistant professor of internal medicine. From 1964 to 1970 he was an associate professor at the medical school. Floyd has been a professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan since 1970. Additionally, Floyd served as director of the Diabetes Care Unit at the University of Michigan Medical School from 1977 to 1986.
John C. Floyd's major areas of research are diabetology and endocrinology. He is a member of the American Diabetes Association serving on the board of directors from 1974 to 1980.
