Residents of Somerset County, New Jersey: Johannes Powelson (1719-1788) of southeastern Bedminster Township, his son Abraham Powelson (1754-1809) of southeastern Bedminster Township, his grandson John A. Powelson (1780-1854) of southeastern Bedminster Township, husband of Alcha/Aletta Van Doren (1785-1868), his great-grandson Abraham J. Powelson (1816-1897) of northern Bridgewater Township and his great-great grandson John A. Powelson (b. 1850) of Pluckemin or its immediate vicinity. Relatives included Abraham J. Powelson's sister Catharine M. Van Nest (1820-1907) and her husband Jerome Van Nest (1815-1886), of Bedminster Township.
