Biographical notes:

A Wisconsin Dept. of State Forestry was first established by 1903 legislation. New legislation in 1905 created the State Board of Forestry. Its functions consisted of management of the state forest reserve and state parks; examination and appraisal of state lands to be purchased or sold; leasing of camp sites; examination and preparation of working plans for timber tracts and farm woodlots; operation of forest nurseries and sale of planting-stock to citizens of Wisconsin; training of forest rangers; and supervision of the fire warden law. These functions were combined with others and vested in a new State Conservation Commission (WIHV86-A1162) by Chapter 406, Laws of 1915, and the Board of Forestry was abolished.
