Biographical notes:
Jean MacIvers Watson was born in 1924 in Massachusetts. The family moved to Barre, Vermont a few years later. She was the eldest of three daughters born to John and Mae Watson. She graduated from Spaulding High School in 1941 and went on to study at the University of Vermont where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1945. In 1958 Jean received her Master̕'s Degree in Teaching from the University of Vermont. She then returned to Barre to teach English at Spaulding High School. Jean was a photographer on Spaulding's year book staff as well as being involved in the American Field Service and the American Association of University Women.
Little is known about Jean̕' younger sisters, Frances Ruth Watson and Lois Mae Watson. Frances was born in 1926 in Barre, Vermont. She graduated from Vermont Junior College with a Liberal Arts degree in 1946. In 1948, Frances received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont and a Master's Degree in 1950. Lois was born July 25, 1928, also in Barre. After graduating from Spaulding High School, Lois went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont. Later in life she became the Music Director at Alvirne High School in Hudson, New Hampshire. Norman H. Watson, born July 25, 1928, was the son of Herbert and Marion Watson. Herbert and John W. Watson were brothers.
