Victor Marion Rose (1842-1893) was borna nd reared in Victoria, Texas, on a large plantation. He served in Company A of the Third Texas Calvary, the "Texas Hunters", during the Civil War. Rose was wounded multiple times and imprisoned at Camp Chase, Ohio. After the war, Rose married, was widowed, and served as editor for the Victoria Advocate, the Laredo Times and the Emory Star. He was a published poet and historian. He died of pneumonia in 1893 in Myrtle Springs, Texas.
