Biographical notes:
Frederick James Merchant was the son of John Merchant and Sarah Jane Merchant, nee Riley. On his arrival in Brisbane he found work with W. Blakeney from 21 January 1879 at Đ20 a year. In 1891 Frederick Merchant lived in Tillot Street, Wooloowin and worked as a clark. He later moved to Heal Street, Brisbane, and died on 1 January 1904.
