Biographical notes:
Rev. John Moffat Howe (1806-1885), dentist, physician, hospital chaplain, and Methodist minister in Passaic, N.J. (Passaic County); his sons, George Rowland Howe (1847-1917), a jewelry manufacturing executive with Carter, Sloan & Co. (later, Carter, Howe & Co.), active in the Methodist church in East Orange, N.J. (Essex County), and Dr. Charles Moffat Howe (1851-1920), a dentist who established the first dental office in Passaic, and mayor of Passaic for four terms. Other family members include George's wife, Louisa Barber Howe (1854-1934) of Homer, N.Y., and son, Herbert Barber Howe (1882-1957).
