Biographical notes:

Gillian D. Rattray came to the Pennsylvania State University in 1972 and became head coach of the women's lacrosse team in 1974 and of the women's field hockey team in 1975. She was instrumental in organizing the first collegiate women's lacrosse championship, ultimately leading her team to three national titles. In 1980, both the field hockey and lacrosse teams won national titles, making her the first coach to win national titles in different sports in the same year. She resigned as the women's lacrosse coach in 1985 to devote more time to field hockey and teaching. She retired as the field hockey coach in 1987 and from teaching in 1997. In 2005 she was elected to both the U.S. Lacrosse and National Field Hockey Halls of Fame.
