Howell Peebles (James H. Peebles) was an American soldier in the infantry and patient for 6 weeks at the 21st General Hospital located at Mirecourt, France, during the winter of 1944-1945. His knowledge of the German language put him in the position of interpreter and he got to know German nurses then caring for German POWS. (Sources: Provenance control file in repository)
