Biographical notes:

Joseph E. "Jimmie" Snee, Sr. of Bayou Goula, Iberville Parish, Louisiana, married Eloise Cannon, a native Texan. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1916 and served as a lieutenant in the United States Army, 156th and 55th infantries, during World War I. He was a bandmaster for the 55th Infantry while stationed in Europe. Snee was employed by Standard Oil Company and its successors (e.g., Exxon) and was director of the Stanocola Refinery Band. He was a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, with the exception of a brief period of residency in New Orleans. In addition to his involvement in music, Snee was quite active in the American Legion and was commander of the Nicholson Post, Baton Rouge. He was elected Department Commander of the American Legion of Louisiana.
