Biographical notes:

Harold Frederick Funsch (b. 1912, St. Louis, Missouri-d. Feb. 6, 1984), U.S. Air Force officer, began his military career with a Reserve commission upon graduation from medical school in 1938. He became flight surgeon, then base surgeon, and wing surgeon of the South Atlantic Wing, Air Transport Command, in Brazil, an area of responsibility from Trinidad to the west coast of Africa. In 1944 he became deputy surgeon, Headquarters Air Transport Command, then surgeon and hospital commander, Headquarters Command, in Washington, D.C. In 1948 he transferred from the Army Air Corps to the U.S. Air Force. Later he served in Germany and Japan. During World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he was associated with the aerial evacuation of patients and has published a number of professional journal articles concerning medicine and the military.
