Represented in the collection are: Asa Holland, tobacco planter, merchant, and deputy sheriff of Franklin County, Va.; his brother, Smithson H. Holland, merchant of Richmond, Va.; his daughter and son-in-law, Sallie and William E. Duncan, a farmer and local official; and his son, Mark, who served in the 2nd Virginia Cavalry, Company D.
