Alabama School Improvement Association (1904-19 ).
Biographical notes:
The association was created by the Ala. Federation of Women's Clubs in 1904 to bring patrons into closer touch with schools, and to create a community solidarity. By 1911 there were only 4 of 63 counties in the state lacking an improvement association, and thus the association became an independent entity. Later that year the organization merged with the Alabama Congress of Parent-Teachers Association, which is regarded as being under the direction of the Department of Education. The state Superintendent of Education appointed the association's executive secretary, at least from 1916 forward.
