Biographical notes:
Richard Cheadle Powell was an engineer and a University of California, Berkeley professor. He worked for the Bechtel Corporation and as a consultant for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. His areas of expertise included the design and construction of steam power plants. He worked, most notably, on a range of power plant projects in Hawaii, including plants for the Hilo Electric Company, the Maui Electric Company, the Kekaha Sugar Company, the Laihana Light and Power Company, the Lihue Plantation, the Puunene and Paia Mills, the McBridge Sugar Company, Kauai Electric Company, and the Samoa Mill.
Adiel Y. Dodge was a mechanical engineer and a specialist in tractor and automotive engineering. He worked for the International Harvestor Company in the nineteen-teens and was connected to the Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. In 1920, Dodge took a position with the Racine Engineering Company.
