Biography
Dr Anderson, a graduate of the School of Medicine, Class of 1930, was born in Sacramento October 20, 1902. He also received his AB from the University, as well as an MS. He held appointments as assistant in pharmacology in the medical school, instructor 1931-34, and assistant clinical professor, 1934-37. From 1940-43 Dr. Anderson was professor of pharmacology at Peiping Union Medical College, and he held the same title at UCSF from 1944, as well as chair of that department, until he stepped down in 1955. He served as Dean of the Medical Faculty at the American University of Beirut 1950-51, and was a member of various field expeditions to Panama (1931), Brazil (1934), Costa Rica (1947), Colombia(1954), and South Africa (1957).
His research interests and expertise included chemotherapy of parasitic disease, analgetics and hypnotics, chemotherapy of tuberculosis, industrial toxicology and chemotherapy of amebiasis. He served as consultant to the US Dept. of Agriculture, the National Research Council and the US Public Health Service, 1944-50, 1957. Dr. Anderson was a fellow of the AMA, and a member of the Society of Experimental Biology, Society of Tropical Medicine (president 1950), Academy of Tropical Medicine, Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics; New York Academy of Science.
