Biographical notes:
The Belem Ecological Project was a multidisciplinary study of environmental conditions of the Amazon delta in thevicinity of Belem, Brazil. The purpose of the project was to improve knowledge of tropical delta forest environments anddetermine the influence of human activities on those environments. The project was funded through a grant from the Army Research Office and ran from 1967 to 1971. Philip Strong Humphrey, Chairman, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, National Museum of Natural History, was Principal Investigator.
