Bluford, Harriet Lolita (Brice). d.?-1978. Teacher of special education Philadelphia Schools seldom used name, "Harriet" - letters signed "Lolita" or "Geet". Dtr. of John and Ella (Hawkins) Brice, 1935 - B.S., Knoxville College, - m. Guion Stewart Bluford: 3 children, boys, 1 of whom became 1st black astronaut. Bluford, Guion Stewart, Jr., 1943-78 - made Major in Air Force; one of three first black astronauts, part of 35-member team (stressing minorities and women) who began training at Johnson Space Center, Houston, July 1; was enrolled in Air Force Institute of Technology as a doctoral candidate.
