Biographical notes:

On December 28, 1953 the Ford Motor Company donated most of its Northern Michigan land and timber holdings to the Ford Motor Company Fund. The donation included approximately 261,000 acres of surface land and related timber, and an additional 60,000 acres of timber standing on land which was retained by Ford Motor Company. As the Ford Motor Company Fund began to investigate the sale of the lands in 1956 the properties were classified into two groups designated as Package 1 and Package 2. Package 1 consisted of approximately 185,000 acres of land and timber and 57,000 acres of timber only. The market value of that package as of February 29, 1956 was $6,811,959.27.
