Biographical notes:

Ruth Bellamy [Brownwood] (1906-1969), native of Enfield, N.C., was a poet, playwright, journalist, editor, and actress. After attending the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Columbia University, she was head of the Department of Spoken English and Expression at High Point College. She also lived in Tokyo (1957-1961) and Hong Kong (1961-1963), where she was associated with the Tokyo Amateur Dramatic Club and the Hong Kong Stage Club. She wrote the lyrics "Blues Tokyo," a song popular in the Far East. She returned to Enfield in 1963 and remained there until her death.
