Biographical notes:

New England Brick Company originally established 1897; operations interrupted during the Spanish-American War of 1898; reopened 1900, merged five different companies including Bay State Brick Company and seven different brickyards; by end of 1900 controlled 25 companies and 36 brickyards in New England and one large plant in Mechanicville, N.Y.; forced into bankruptcy in 1904 and was split into two companies: New England Brick Yards Co. and NEBCO; in 1929 New England Brick Yards Co. bought out by NEBCO; by 1950 NEBCO was distributor for over 20 companies and its own two brickyards; Cambridge, Mass., brickyard closed in 1952 and plant in Gonic, N.H., a few years later. William Gardner Long was associated with NEBCO for most of its existence, remaining president until 1950. He also served as president of Common Brick Manufacturers Association which later became Structural Clay Products Institute.
