Biographical note: Lawyer and surveyor; John A. Clark was appointed Surveyor General of New Mexico (including Arizona) in 1861 and served until 1868.

John A. Clark, Jr., was the son of John A. and Ellen Causey Clark. His genealogical notes concern families related to his parents. The families, primarily from Craven and Pitt counties, N.C., include the Bright, Whitford, Witherington, Clark, Brooks, Purifoy, Causey, Gwaltney, Wadsworth, Franks, Miller, Rhem, Stokes, Gaskins, and Gardner families.
