Henry Walton (1768-1844) was the son of Jacob and [?] (Cruger) Walton, a prominent New York City family. Henry Walton studied law with Aaron Burr and in 1790 removed to Ballston Spa, New York and then Albany, New York. He married three times, the second to Mrs. Mathilda (Cruger) Yates by whom he had seven children including the Ithaca artist Henry Walton (1806-1865), and [Willaim] Henry Walton (1808-?) who is represented in this collection. [William] Henry Walton was the original owner of the United States Spring (Magnesia Spring). In 1816 Henry Walton [Sr.] removed to Saratoga Springs, Saratoga County, New York taking possession of land willed to him in Kayaderroseras Patent where he built his home "Woodlawn." Walton practiced law with a Mr. Leavitt and in 1819 built the Pavillion Hotel. Henry Walton died in 1844 and is buried in the family vault in Trinity Church, New York City, New York.
