Chrimes, Stanley Bertram, 1907-1984, historian and university lecturer
Biographical notes:
Stanley Bertram Chrimes was born on 23 February 1907 , son of Herbert Chrimes and Maud Mary Rose. He married Mabel Clara Keyser. He was educated at Purley County Secondary School, Surrey, Kings College London (Lindley Student; BA; MA), and Trinity College Cambridge (Research Studentship Senior Rouse Ball Student; PhD; LittD). His MA thesis was on John, first Duke of Bedford. He was lecturer and reader in Constitutional History at the University of Glasgow from 1936-1953 , and then Professor of History at University College, Cardiff, from 1953-1974. His publications continue to be read widely including: English Constitutional History (4 edns: 1947-1967, London), Henry VIII (1st edn. 1972, London and 2nd edn, (1999, London), An Introduction to the Administrative History of Medieval England (3 edns. 1952-1966). Chrimes died in 1984.
