Joseph Kyle Orr (1857-1930), a native of New York, was a dry goods merchant and shoe manufacturer. He moved to Columbus, Ga., about 1873, and settled in Atlanta, Ga., about 1897. He was president of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and trustee of Agnes Scott College, George Peabody College, and Martha Berry School. He was a high ranking mason and served as Grand Master of the Grand Encampment of the Masonic Knights Templars in 1919. He was also founder of the Knights Templar Foundation, which made loans to college students.
