1929 commissioned; 1930-1934 8th King George’s Own Light Cavalry (IA); 1934-1947 Indian Political Service (served in Aden, Abyssinia, Persian Gulf, Rajputana, Hyderabad, Kathiawar, Baroda, New Delhi); 1947 OBE and transferred to HM Foreign Service; 1947-1948 First Secretary, Karachi; 1949-1951 Foreign Office; 1951-1954 Commercial Counsellor, HM Embassy, Madrid; 1954-1955 Consul-General, Brazzaville; 1955-1957 Consul-General, Leopoldville; 1957-1962 Commercial Counsellor, HM Embassy, Brussels; 1962-1965 Consul-General, São Paulo; 1965-1969 Ambassador to Kinshasa, Congo Republic (later Zaire), and to Burundi; 1969 KCMG; 1970-1981 Adjudicator, Immigration Appeals.
