Biographical notes:
The Cubiculo Theatre, located at 414 West 51st Street, New York City, showcased young artists from across the performing arts spectrum. Founded in 1969 by Philip Meister and Elaine Sulka, it was initially used as an experimental theater space for their troupe, the National Shakespeare Company. They also rented out the 75-seat space to dance and music groups, and in 1972 qualified for a "performing arts presenting and service organizations" grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. Nicknamed "the Cube" by audiences, the theater was known as an affordable place to produce a show, and existed as a performance space into the 1990s.
