Biographical notes:

Margaret Regina Hart Owen was born November 25, 1896, in Missoula, Montana, to Ella B. and Charles A. Hart. She attend Sacred Heart Academy, Missoula Business College, and the University of Montana, all in Missoula. She also attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. She specialized in plant and biological sciences.

Margaret Owen was briefly married to a man named Troop. She married William B. Owen on August 30, 1932. They had no children. Owen worked for the U. S. Forest Service in Montana and Minnesota from 1923 to 1932. She served as a secretary to the University of Wyoming Law College dean in 1943 and 1945 before working as the assistant to the director of the Institute of Biology and Radiobiology in 1955 and 1958. Owen was active in the Laramie, Wyoming, community in fund-raising, church, and social organizations. She died on April 18, 1986.
