Thomas Gale (1635/6-1702), Dean of York 1697-1702, edited Historiae Britannicae, Saxonicae, Anglo-Danicae, Scriptores XV, Oxford, 1691, in which chapter 4, p.141, was 'Asserii annales' ('Chronicon Fani Sancti Neoti, sive Annales Joan. Asserii; ut nonnullis videtur'), the Annals of St. Neot's. The writer of the commentary on 'Asserii annales' has been identified on the evidence of his handwriting as Edward Churton (1800-74), Archdeacon of Cleveland 1846-74.
