Biographical notes:

Frederick Norman Van Der Linden (1905-1980) was first employed by Woodward & Lothrop as an assistant window trimmer on 26 Oct. 1926. During his tenure, he managed displays at the Pentagon, Alexandria, and Seven Corners branches. He designed and executed both interior and window displays for the store's 75th anniversary celebration. He was a founder and first president of the Woodward & Lothrop Employees Union and was a member of the 20 Year Club. He served as a Field Director for the American Red Cross station at the Key West Naval Base during World War II, for which he received a commendation of his service. Van Der Linden and his wife, Ethel, had three children and resided in northwest Washington.
