Biographical notes:

Edward Dwyer (1906-1999) and Elizabeth McLachlan (1909-1991), high school sweethearts, were both raised in Norwalk, Connecticut. Edward Dwyer was a graduate of St. John's College in Maryland, as well as Johns Hopkins School of Engineering and George Washington University Law School, while Elizabeth graduated from Marshall College in West Virginia. The two married in 1933 and settled in Pennsylvania, where Edward began work in the patent office of the Electric Storage Battery Company. Over the next thirty years, he would rise through the ranks of that company, eventually serving as president. Both Edward and Elizabeth were active in many organizations. Edward served as a board member for a number of professional bodies, including the Quaker Chemical Corporation, Selas Corporation, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, and the National Association of Manufacturers. Dwyer also had many non-professional associations, including the Union League of Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Republican Party. Edward and Elizabeth were both active parishioners of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Abington. Elizabeth volunteered with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the American Red Cross, and was an avid genealogist. The Dwyers had two children, Nancy and John.
