Biographical notes:

Charleston, South Carolina writer. She was the granddaughter of Robert Barnwell Rhett (1800-1876), and her parents were Robert Barnwell Rhett II (1828-1905) and Josephine Horton. In 1888 she married Charleston (S.C.) merchant Daniel Huger Bacot (1847-1920). Their children included: Daniel Huger Bacot (b. 1888), Walter Rhett Bacot (b. 1899), and Barnwell Rhett Bacot (b. 1891). Josephine Rhett Bacot wrote numerous articles, poems, and stories under the name of Hulda Leigh.

Charleston, South Carolina resident. Josephine Horton Rhett Bacot's grandfather was Robert Barnwell Rhett (1800-1876). Her parents were Josephine Horton of Virginia and Robert Barnwell Rhett II (1828-1905). Bacot was one of four children: Josephine Horton Rhett (ca. 1852-1860), Dr. Robert Barnwell Rhett III (1854-1901, also known as Robert Barnwell Rhett, Jr.), Walter Horton Rhett I (b. 1857), and Lucy Otey Rhett. After her mother and sister died in an epidemic, Lucy Otey Rhett was renamed Josephine Horton Rhett (1859-1932).

Rhett married Daniel Huger Bacot (1847-1920) in 1888. Their children include: Daniel Huger Bacot, II (b. 1899), Barnwell Rhett Bacot, and Walter Rhett Bacot. Josephine Rhett Bacot wrote numerous articles, poems, and short stories under the pseudonym Hulda Leigh.
