Biographical notes:

Anne Hobbs Purdy was born November 10, 1901 in Missouri, but grew up in Longmont, Colorado. She came to Alaska in 1928 to teach for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and taught in Eagle, Tetlin, and Chicken. She married Fred Purdy of Chicken, a gold miner, in 1940. The couple adopted and raised 11 children. In 1976, Anne Purdy published a popular book titled Tisha based on her experiences as a teacher. She was also the author of numerous newspaper and magazine articles and another book, Dark Boundary. Anne Purdy died in Dot Lake on April 15, 1987.
