Fred W. Hodgson was born in Salt Lake City on March 12, 1886 to Mary E. and Oliver Hodgson. In 1904 at the age of 18, he embarked on a three-year LDS mission to Belgium. He returned to Ogden, Utah where he completed an apprenticeship with his brother Leslie S. Hodgson.
He married Mary Eleanor Bingham of Ogden, Utah in the Salt Lake City temple and the couple then moved to San Diego, California in order for Fred to complete his architectural training. Around 1915, he and Mary returned to Utah where Fred established his own business in Logan. He and Mary had seven children: Fred B., Mary, Virginia, Eleanor, Margaret, Beverly, and William.
During the next fifteen years, Hodgson developed architectural plans for numerous schools in Cache and Box Elder Counties as well as churches, jails and private homes. He died on March 16, 1930 after a short illness following a tonsillectomy.
