Franklin B. Galbraith, M.D. was a distinguished Pontiac citizen, statesman, physician and surgeon. He was born near Port Huron (Mich.) on Dec. 26, 1840, one of seven children born to Dr. John and Mrs. Nancy Galbraith. After graduating from the University of Michigan Medical Dept. at age 21, Franklin attended the College of Physicians and Surgeons (N.Y.) in 1860, from which he graduated in 1861. He began his practice in Lexington (Mich.). During the Civil War, Franklin served in the 10th Regular Michigan Infantry as an assist. surgeon (1862); surgeon of the Board of Enrollment (1863); surgeon of the 31st Regular Michigan Infantry; and the 4th Michigan Cavalry. Three times he served as mayor of Pontiac. In 1889 he was elected as State Senator for the 14th District. In 1865 Franklin married Marie Smith, and together they had two children. He died on Feb. 21, 1903. (Information from Oakland County biographical records.).
