Violoncellist, musicologist, author and teacher, born in Northfield, Minnesota; teachers included Paul Bazelaire, Luigi Silva, and Pablo Casals; cellist with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra; Professor of Cello at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, 1945-1976; author of The cello (New York : Scribner's, 1975); founded the Collegium Musicum at UNC Greensboro in 1972.
