Muir and Morcom.
Biographical notes:
Sir Thomas McIlwraith (1835-1900) was one of four directors of the Queensland Investment and Land Mortage Co. when, in 1892, the London directors charged them with fraud. After 55 days in the Supreme Court the presiding judge, Sir Charles Lilley, discharged the jury and found in favour of the plaintiffs. The decision was reversed on appeal and Lilley resigned under pressure not long after. Addresses were presented to the four directors of the bank following the appeal: the Honourable Sir Arthur H Palmer, the Honourable Frederick Hamilton Hart , Edward Robert Drury, Esq. and McIlwraith.
