Biographical notes:

Walter C. G. Kirchner (b. 1875) received his A. B. (1897) from Washington University and M.D. (1901) from Washington University Medical School . He served on the faculty of the Washington University Medical School as assistant and instructor in bacteriology (1903-1905) and as assistant in surgery (1915-1917) and assistant in clinical surgery (1918-1924) . He was also assistant bacteriologist at the City Health department of St. Louis (1899-1901). He had a long association with City Hospital serving as interne (1901-1903), assistant superintendent (1903-1907), superintendent and surgeon in charge (1907-1910), and visiting surgeon (1915-1926). He was a physician and surgeon in private practice in St. Louis (1902, 1911-1956), receiving his American Board of Surgery in 1912, and thereafter surgeon in various other hospitals (St. Louis City Hospital, St. Johns, St. Louis Eye, Ear, Nose, and Throat Hospital).
