In 2006 Orange County, Florida created a task force to study the feasability of regulating big box stores, including regulating how far these stores were built from schools and residential housing, controlling of street lights, regulating carts, controlling traffic, and landscaping. Christian Bauer was a computer engineering professor at the University of Central Florida from 1970 through 2008 who served on this task force.
